Mambo Gelato and more...

I am having a wonderful food and music weekend.
Susie@The Mill House put me on to two great books

which have transcended me into culinary heaven. That combined with
Leigh@Brabourne Farm wonderful images of summer lunch scenes
and my music of the moment, the soundtrack from the movie 'No Reservations'.
I just love cooking to 'Mambo Gelato"by Ray Gelato.
If you ever need a kick start,
listen to this...(click on 'Mambo Gelato)

This of course reminds me of other movies that inspire me
to pull out the apron and my favourite blue crueset pot...

I am off to make Nigella's Minestone soup while I gyrate to the sounds of 'Mambo Gelato.'
How about you, any inspiring cooking movies?
I am always looking for suggestions.

A Little Weekend Bliss

A little weekend bliss.
Imagine yourself here...
then relax and take a bath..
'Today "taking a bath" is less about cleansing your body and more about cleansing your mind. To create the Ultimate Bathing Experience in your home, follow these steps to indulge all your five senses
  1. Lock the door, leave the phone in another room, and hang a Do Not Disturb sign on the doorknob. Tell the kids Dad is in charge for the next 45 minutes and tell your husband you're not available. This is your "alone time".
  2. Dim the lights, switch on a soft lamp or light smoke-free candles. No harsh lighting allowed.
  3. Light a stick of incense that will help you transcend the ordinary and bring you into a higher spiritual realm.
  4. Play soft music or nature sounds to pacify your inner soul.
  5. Run your bath water at about 104 degrees Fahrenheit -- super-hot water dries your skin. Pour bath salts directly into the running tap water and swirl with your hand to help them dissolve.
  6. Step into the bathtub and slowly let your body sink into the luxurious warmth. Close your eyes and take a moment to breathe in the scents rising on the steam.
  7. Be sure to partake of The Food Of The Gods. Not only is chocolate a sensual euphoria, but recent studies have found that cocoa and cocoa-based products help to lower blood pressure, increase circulaion, strengthen the heart and improve overall circulatory system health.
  8. Have a cup of your favorite coffee, cocoa or tea handy. All three beverages are high in antioxidants, which help stave off cancer, heart disease, diabetes and stroke. Not to mention sipping a warm beverage is calming to the inner body.
  9. Read a good book while you're relaxing. Reading is not only the best form of entertainment, it also is a powerful brain stimulant that will help increase IQ levels, promote good memory and prevent dementia in old age.
  10. While your pores are opening due to the steam rising up from your bath, apply a facial masque to remove dead skin cells and rehydrate delicate facial epidermis.
  11. Wash and shampoo with an organic or natural cleanser. Regular bath products contain harsh chemicals, additives and preservatives that not only dry out your skin, but also contain carcinogens. Organic and natural cleansers are skin-friendly, keeping your skin fully hydrated with a healthy, natural glow.
  12. Water getting cool? Don't get out yet -- keep soaking. As the water cools down, the lower temperature will begin to close off your pores in a gentle, natural way. (Better than shocking your nerves with a splash of icy water.)
  13. Carefully step out of your bathtub since many bath salts contain moisturizing ingredients that will make the tub slippery. Wrap yourself in one of our Redrock Oasis cotton/bamboo towels. Eco-friendly bamboo and 100% cotton towels caress your body in cashmere-like softness and are more absorbent than regular towels. Breathable, durable and beneficial to anyone with allergies or sensitive skin because they're naturally antibacterial.
  14. Apply an organic body lotion or body creme to your skin, and a body butter or therapy cream to tougher areas such as elbows and heels. Moisturizing after your salt bath will seal the salt minerals into your skin, allowing your body to absorb the full benefits of your bath, while hydrating your skin and keeping it it soft, supple and youthful.
  15. Before re-entering the real world, take a deep breath and think of the love and gratitude you feel for the people and blessings in your life.'

Mijn zusje en ik hebben laatst cupcakes gemaakt! Zijn ze niet prachtig?
Jammer genoeg was het deeg mislukt, dus ze waren niet echt eetbaar..

My little sis and I made cupcakse last week! Aren't they beautiful?
Its a shame that they tasted so bad(the dough was not good).. But we had a great time making them :).

Floral Friday

There was a time when I could not get enough of this beautiful english country floral fabric.
As I said, there was a time...when would that have been?
A few of these are from my decorating journals and magazines of yesteryear.
I am sure if I walked in a room with any of these
I would still secretly swoon as they are so pretty.
Having married a man with a passion for Australasian and tribal art
I have to admit that I conceded and have decorated
around our eclectic collection and now love it.
But still, there is that yearning for a room
that I could fill with flowers in any shape or form.

This is closer to what you would find in our home today.
Indigenous art and the calmness of white with a touch of colour.

PS..I must thank one and all for their very helpful comments to my last post.
I am now coming out of my muddle and am cutting and scanning away.
I feel liberated!
Thank you :)

Wishing you a weekend
filled with laughter and joy!
Jeanne

In A Muddle

I am having one of those moments....
Unpacking boxes is not on my top ten list of fun things to do.
I feel like the woman in the photo.
'Let's see where should I put this?'
And what was I thinking when I wrote this post last November?
http://collageoflife-henrqs.blogspot.com/2009/11/2-dear-bpacking-101.html
I thought I was so clever packing all those magazines!
I just found them...now where am I going to put them??
I am in a muddle.

Suggestions/comments most welcome!

Wrap Yourself In Colour

Wouldn't it be nice?
Opening your closet, peering inside,
having all these colours to choose from
then deciding which colour to wrap yourself in.
I feel a raspberry day coming on...how about you?

Ever wondered what your colour choices say about you?

Click here to read in full size.

Afterthought: I am going to take that thought a step further
and imagine a closet full of cashmere sweaters!

Have a colourful day!

(Bootleg) Beatles Love

Dankje Emilie! (Kijk ook naar haar geweldige blog: http://blog.delancefashion.com/)

I went to the Bootleg Beatles a few months ago and it was amazing. My dad and my friend Jikkie, who both love the beatles, took me to the concert and i turned into a complete beatle-fan.

And even thought they were Bootleg, they were really awesome. They looked just like the real Beatles! A lot of costumechanges (with the suites of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band among them!), wigs and mustaches and the way the real Beatles behaved (The nervous Mccartney for example) made it an awesome show.

PS: My first follower! I did not expect it so fast, but i'm really really happy! :D Thanks Emilie, your blog looks awesome! (please visit http://blog.delancefashion.com/)

If you could....

If you could pack a bag for a morning outing on your own
and could fill it with anything...
what would you take and where would you go?
I would toss in my
camera
 ipod
a good book
journals
sketch pads
pencils
folding chair
my akubra
wellies
pick up a double shot flat white for the road
and see where the road takes me.
How about you?
